Saudi Arabia has designated 2026 as the Year of Artificial Intelligence, focusing its efforts on developing intelligent models and technological innovation to strengthen its status as a global technology powerhouse.
This initiative seeks to accelerate digital transformation across all sectors, stimulate scientific research, and cultivate national talent in artificial intelligence, all of which contribute to the development of a sustainable, advanced, knowledge-based economy that improves quality of life and places Saudi Arabia at the forefront of leading nations in innovation and technology.
Saudi Arabia’s AI & National Talent Achievements
The Kingdom has emerged as a major player in the field of artificial intelligence in recent years, placing 14th in the 2025 Global AI Index while continuing to be at the forefront of technological innovation and smart model development in the Arab world.
The sector’s increased investments are credited with this advancement. In 2024, the Kingdom’s AI companies invested more than $9.1 billion, and the government spent more than 56% more on developing technologies. The Kingdom has trained over 11,000 experts in AI sectors as part of its human capital development programme, which places a strong emphasis on developing specialised indigenous talent.
Additionally, it has started top-notch educational programmes, such as the ‘SAMAI’ programme, which has attracted over a million participants and reflects a general trend in Saudi Arabia to improve technical skills and increase digital literacy.

The National Data Lake, which links more than 430 government systems, the Shaheen 3 supercomputer, and the Hexagon Data Centre—one of the biggest government data centres worldwide with a capacity of up to 480 megawatts—have all strengthened Saudi Arabia’s digital infrastructure.
