Event Details
Every year on December 18th, the world observes World Arabic Language Day 2025. The purpose of this day is to celebrate Arabic and its worldwide contribution to cultural enrichment.
The King Salman Global Academy for the Arabic Language (KSGAAL), in collaboration with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's Permanent Mission to the UN, celebrates World Arabic Language Day at the UN headquarters under the patronage of His Highness Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan Al Saud, Minister of Culture and Chairman of the Academy's Board of Trustees. The 2025 edition of World Arabic Language Day focuses on innovation and inclusion in shaping the future of the Arabic language. Moreover, the theme “Innovative Pathways for Arabic: Policies and Practices for a More Inclusive Linguistic Future” highlights the role of education, media, technology, and public policy in promoting accessible and socially responsive uses of the language. Arabic, one of the oldest living languages, dates back over 1,600 years. Likewise, it has spread significantly since the early Islamic era, impacting science, literature, politics, and religion, and is vital to Muslims globally. The language has also absorbed influences from various civilisations, including Arab, Persian, Greek, and Indian. The Arabic language is fundamental to the identity of Arab nations and emphasises their position globally. It is a key characteristic of a nation, with its strength often gauged by the extent of its language's influence and the proficiency of its speakers. Arabic is a key language for teaching sciences such as Islamic studies, the Holy Quran, Hadith, and Fiqh. It facilitates direct access to religious teachings and serves as a reference for languages like Turkish, Persian, and Kurdish. Additionally, it enhances understanding of other languages through translation, promoting cultural exposure and broadening horizons. Read more: Jeddah International Book Fair, 2025Time
