The Desert Architecture Forum aims to establish itself as the premier platform for desert architecture discussions in Saudi Arabia, following a successful launch in Dubai. Aligned with HRH Mohamed Bin Salman's Saudi Architecture Characters Map, the Forum emphasises the Kingdom's architectural heritage while promoting innovations in sustainable design. It gathers a diverse group of experts—including academics, officials, architects, and urban planners—to explore the interplay of tradition, innovation, and sustainability, with a focus on regenerative infrastructure, adaptable urbanisation, climate-responsive architecture, and smart materials. Likewise, this Forum acts as a catalyst for creating the resilient, sustainable, and locally anchored built environment of the future as Saudi Arabia speeds up its transition under Vision 2030. As part of Vision 2030, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has released the National Architectural and Design Map. The Architecture and Design Commission oversaw the creation of the map, which depicts Saudi Arabia's unique architectural identity. The platform showcases iconic landmarks, innovative projects, and design excellence in Saudi traditions, serving as a national reference for architects, planners, and institutions in shaping the built environment. In short, the programme combines authenticity, sustainability, and modernity to create a distinctive Saudi design language, promoting thriving, culturally diverse, and future-ready cities. Saudi Arabia is rapidly developing, with plans for giga-projects and smart cities, guided by the Saudi Architectural Character Map, which acts like a roadmap for design decisions.
