Safety is Necessary for Enjoyment

Safety is still the most essential aspect despite the great range of activities. Monitoring and awareness are becoming more important as the number of visitors and water sports enthusiasts rises. Therefore, the Jeddah Municipality has established operational and field strategies in collaboration with pertinent authorities to continuously monitor the beaches and guarantee the security of tourists.

Plans are in place to deploy 66 lifeguards and 34 field supervisors to ensure compliance with swimming instructions and respond to emergencies. Awareness campaigns will remind visitors about the risks of drowning and the importance of maritime safety guidelines, emphasising that true enjoyment in activities lies in experiencing them safely.

Marine tourism in Jeddah is expanding beyond traditional activities like beaches and water sports, with a notable increase in luxury cruise shipments at Jeddah Islamic Port. Notably, “Aroya Cruises” provides families with a distinctive experience that integrates on-board accommodations with exploration of the Red Sea islands, making the cruise a central aspect of the vacation rather than just transportation.

Domestic Travel Advances the Industry

The figures give a clear explanation for why Jeddah is seeing such a spike in activity. In the first quarter of 2026, there were almost 28.9 million domestic visitors to the Kingdom, up 16% from the same period in 2025, according to preliminary figures from the Ministry of Tourism.

Spending increased in tandem with the number of visitors, with domestic tourism spending rising by almost 8% to SAR 34.7 billion in the first quarter. When taking into account both domestic and foreign travel, there were about 37.2 million visitors overall, and the total amount spent on travel was about SAR 82.7 billion.

During the same period, the occupancy rate of tourist hospitality establishments was roughly 59%. In terms of occupancy, Madinah ranked highest at 82%, followed by Makkah at 60% and Jeddah at 59%.
These figures provide a clear picture of the amount of tourism that occurs in the Kingdom and demonstrate that demand is now more varied and ongoing rather than being dependent on a particular season or kind of travel.

The Saudi tourism system, led by the Saudi Tourism Authority, conducted a promotional campaign with the tagline “The Eid in You is Blessed,” benefiting Jeddah and Red Sea destinations. The campaign comprised tourism packages created in collaboration with the commercial sector, as well as resorts in the Red Sea, Jeddah, Al-Ula, and other locations. Some of these facilities had 100% occupancy rates, reflecting the high demand for these destinations throughout the holiday season.
