Makkah Begins Major ‘Districts Development’ Investments
The Royal Commission for Makkah City and the Holy Sites announced the launch of a new package of projects under the “Developed Districts Programme,” marking the beginning of a new phase of urban development projects in Makkah.
This action is part of several initiatives to develop several Districts, raise the standard of infrastructure and services, and improve the investment climate in the city, which welcomes millions of tourists each year.
Developing 7 Districts with Major Investment
With the signing of contracts to carry out development projects totalling more than 16.3 billion riyals, the Royal Commission declared the beginning of a new phase of the programme. Moreover, these projects, spanning more than 4.4 million square metres, are located in seven strategic locations in Makkah.
The Districts of Jarham Al-Janoubiya, Al-Hijla, Al-Khalidiya, Al-Hindawiya Al-Sharqiya, Al-Hindawiya Al-Janoubiya, Al-Hindawiya Al-Gharbiya, and Al-Zuhur are among those targeted. These communities are implementing development plans to enhance the urban environment and expand public services and infrastructure.

Public-Private Partnerships
The new initiatives depend on collaborations between the Royal Commission and various domestic businesses with expertise in construction, real estate development, and investment. Meanwhile, this model will leverage the private sector’s experience in developing targeted areas and expedite project implementation. With an emphasis on making the area more appealing to locals and investors, programme managers think these collaborations will help achieve urban development objectives and boost implementation efficiency.
The programme’s goals go beyond simply developing buildings and roads. Likewise, the projects seek to improve the quality of life in specific districts by creating a more organised urban environment and providing better services to residents.

Makkah Projects Aim to Boost Economic Activity
Particularly in the real estate, services, and infrastructure sectors, these projects seem to increase economic activity and generate new investment opportunities. To achieve balanced urban development that keeps up with Makkah’s rapid growth, experts believe that developing priority areas and older neighbourhoods is essential.
Furthermore, with the launch of this new phase, attention has turned to the substantial influence these projects will have on the city in the years to come, whether it be in terms of neighbourhood development, service enhancement, or improving the urban environment’s efficiency, all of which are appropriate given Makkah’s status and its religious and economic significance.
