The Anglo-Omani Society (AOS) held its annual party in the presence of officials and businesspersons from the Sultanate of Oman and the United Kingdom.

Eng Said bin Hamood al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, affirmed that the Oman Logistics Centre is essential in placing the Sultanate of Oman as a sustainable global logistic hub.

He stressed that the centre is “an enabler for realising this objective using the most advanced technologies to boost the employment rate of the national workforce and provide support to the logistic sector.”

The minister said that Oman Logistics Strategy 2040 aims to enhance the logistics sector’s contribution to the gross domestic product (GDP) at actual value, generate job opportunities, and develop sustainable jobs for the Omani workforce.

“It also aims to improve the various performance indicators of the Sultanate of Oman in the World Bank and global economic model indicators by upgrading the rankings of the logistics index, arranging the competitive index, classifying the trade empowerment index and increasing Oman’s international view of becoming a regional and global logistics hub.”

Among the main areas of Oman Logistics Strategy 2040 is the focus on international agreements that would enhance the performance of the logistics sector in the Sultanate of Oman in general and improve the national indicators of the Sultanate of Oman.

On his part, Richard Stanford, Chairman of AOS, emphasised the strength of the historical bilateral relations binding the Sultanate of Oman and the United Kingdom and the continuing cooperation in the political, commercial, technical and military fields.

Stanford added that last year the Sultanate of Oman launched the National Digital Economy programme, which targets to boost the sector’s contribution to the GDP from 2% to 10% and expedite digital transformation in the public and private sectors.

The Anglo-Omani Society (AOS) was established in 1991 and reconstituted in 2013 to support the Sultanate of Oman and the United Kingdom’s areas of cooperation.
