The Riyadh Metro project has a price tag of billions of dollars. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is trying to settle a disagreement with the contracting businesses working on it.

On the disputed payments, the coalitions between Alstom and the Bechtel Group have reached a consensus. On the other hand, the third partnership, headed by Webuild SpA, an Italian business, is about to ink a comparable contract.

Bechtel is reportedly pursuing a payment of about $1 billion, though specifics have not yet been disclosed. This deal serves as a move in the right direction towards quickening work and reducing traffic in the capital, Riyadh.

The Riyadh Metro Project’s Goal

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is hoping to achieve its first budget surplus in several years with the increase in oil prices. Particularly, after the Kingdom won contracts worth around $22 billion in 2013 to expand the metro system. It seemed likely that the project, which consists of around 175 km of railway, would be finished in 2019.

The Riyadh Metro project is unquestionably a key component of the city’s aspirations for urban growth. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is spearheading to make Riyadh a globally recognised and sustainable commercial hub.

The first train project in the Kingdom with tunnels between 20 and 35 metres below the surface is the Riyadh Metro. Without a driver, its trains run autonomously through central control rooms.

Specifications & Capability of Riyadh Metro

338 train cars with a cohesive design that provides the metro with its visual character will be part of the finished project. It will run 202 trains and have five control centres to oversee and manage train operations. This demonstrates the Kingdom’s dedication to cutting emissions and improving the efficiency of public transport.

The first phase of the Riyadh Metro will begin to serve 1.2 million people, with plans to expand to 3.6 million passengers in 10 years.

Additionally, the metro will create more than 7,600 jobs a year, 2,300 of which will be in the technology sector. They boost the regional economy and expand employment prospects.
