Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, will house the World Multidisciplinary Hospital, featuring 150 beds and linking to King's College Hospital in London.

In Saudi Arabia, Jeddah will become the headquarters of the World Multidisciplinary Hospital, which will connect to King’s College Hospital’s facilities in London and contain 150 beds.

Hospital Development

Building on the success of King’s College Hospital Dubai, which has quickly become one of the best hospitals in the UAE, Ashmore Group, a specialist emerging markets investment manager, in collaboration with King’s College Hospital London and Saudi Bugshan Group, is pleased to announce the start of construction of King’s College Hospital Jeddah (“KCHJ”).

The hospital is set to open its doors to patients in the second half of 2023, and it is intended to be the first of many similar projects that will provide Ashmore and King’s with a platform for future growth in Saudi Arabia.

Integration and Capacity

The nation’s first fully integrated hospital will be KCHJ, providing the full benefits of King’s College Hospital London to Saudi Arabia while also contributing to the Kingdom’s 2030 healthcare strategy. The London-based tertiary hospital is part of the world-class UK National Health Service and has a 180-year track record of successfully caring for patients with difficult diseases. Moreover, King’s is one of the biggest teaching hospitals in the UK. Every year, the hospital’s 13,000+ employees in London treat more than one million patients.

The cutting-edge King’s College Hospital Jeddah, located on King Abdulaziz Road, will open in 2023 and will encompass an area of more than 32000 square meters, with a capacity of 150 beds in the initial phase. Approximately 1000 exceptional medical specialists from London, Saudi Arabia, will work at the facility and the surrounding region, who will provide care in accordance with King’s College Hospital London’s tried-and-true clinical procedures.

Besides, the hospital will emphasise clinical innovation and smart technologies, with 40 medical and surgical specialities and four Centres of Excellence in the following Institutes: Women’s Health, Metabolic Diseases and Bariatric Surgery, Orthopaedics, and Heart & Vascular. King’s College Hospital London will fully integrate its services and meet a range of complex and critical care needs unique to Saudi Arabian individuals and communities using a patient-centred care approach and staffing.

Strategic Collaboration

Ashmore’s Head of Healthcare Private Equity, Ahsan Ali, stated: “In collaboration with King’s College Hospital London, we remain loyal to our aim and commitment to delivering the finest of British healthcare to the region. King’s and Ashmore are starting a new chapter in Saudi Arabia after the success of their hospital and clinics in Dubai. The first project is a historic hospital in Jeddah. We anticipate establishing comparable institutions bearing the King’s brand in various regions of the Kingdom, including specialised centres.

Likewise, the London and Jeddah hospitals will share expertise from established King’s research centres in the United Kingdom. Using King’s world-class healthcare expertise will ensure that patients in Jeddah have access to the highest quality evidence-based care, will encourage further collaborations between physicians in both countries, and will allow for seamless patient journeys between the Jeddah and London hospitals, reducing the need for patients to travel to the UK.

Leadership Statements

Sir Hugh Taylor, Chairman of King’s College Hospital in London, said, “We are happy that King’s, in collaboration with Ashmore, is expanding its footprint to Saudi Arabia, building on the success of our hospital and clinics in the UAE.” King’s College Hospital has a long tradition of providing exceptional patient care in London, and as part of our “Strong roots, Global reach” strategy, we adhere to providing exceptional treatment to patients in Saudi Arabia.”

Mark Coombs, Chief Executive Officer of Ashmore Group plc, added, “Ashmore Group remains committed to supporting KSA’s continued development across multiple areas. We have been active in KSA over the last two decades and were the first international fund manager to establish local operations1 with a dedicated team in Riyadh, and we are now excited about playing our role in the development of KSA’s healthcare sector by bringing King’s to the country.”

Furthermore, the UK Government’s Department for International Trade (DIT) has been assisting Ashmore and King’s College Hospital with this project in Jeddah, adding, “The proposed Jeddah development will greatly benefit from having an NHS partner – King’s College Hospital – which will support the Kingdom’s Healthcare transformation and allow for valuable expertise and knowledge transfer to help shape healthcare provision.” This will be the first hospital in the kingdom to collaborate with the National Health Service.”
