The region’s deputy governor, Prince Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Abdulaziz, officially opened six road projects in Riyadh, totalling 112 kilometres and costing 380 million riyals. Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz, the governor of the Riyadh Region, presided over the inauguration.
This occurred during a reception held at his Government Palace office with several transport and logistics system leaders and Eng. Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, Minister of Transport and Logistics Services and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Authority for Roads and Transport.
On December 24 of last year, the Riyadh Region announced the “Road Quality” programme, which is in conjunction with this inauguration. In line to develop and improve roads and infrastructure to meet the objectives of Vision 2030, this programme seeks to increase the effectiveness of the city’s transportation system.
A Summary of the “Road Quality” Initiative
One of its primary goals, according to the Riyadh Region Infrastructure Projects Centre, is the Road Quality Programme, which was announced by the Riyadh Region Municipality. The centre has created a thorough plan for Riyadh’s streets and roads for the upcoming years, complete with projected completion dates for each project. It then made contact with fifteen public and private service providers.
The centre promised to follow the scheduled implementation and emphasised its involvement in the planning process. To prevent project duplication over the next five years, it redirected its resurfacing implementation priorities by gathering, evaluating, and consolidating over 200,000 ongoing and upcoming projects.
More than 16 million square metres of asphalt layers would have otherwise been wasted, improving sustainability and guaranteeing traffic safety. It is important to note that the Road Quality Programme is a component of the Centre’s endeavours, in collaboration with the Riyadh Region Municipality and partners from all relevant and regulatory bodies, to enhance the quality of Riyadh’s roads. It offers a sustainable, constantly changing environment to satisfy the city’s inhabitants’ desires and fulfil Saudi Vision 2030’s objectives.

380 Million Riyal Projects were Launched
One of Prince Mohammed bin Abdulrahman’s projects was the completion of the northern interchange’s dual connection in Wadi Al-Dawasir Governorate. It was 52 km long and cost 166 million riyals. At 145 million riyals, the project also included the completion of the 21-kilometre Al-Kharj/Al-Quway’iyah dual carriageway.
In addition, the project involved building a 24-million-riyal overpass on the main road that would connect the Dharmah/Shaqraa road and the cement factory entrance. The overpass would be one kilometre long. Along with the implementation of single connections in the Aba Khasifa and Al-Sakhir farms, the project also included the completion of some outstanding work on the Saad Ashira road and the Ashira/Jalajil road. The project was 12 km long and cost 21 million riyals.
Additionally, the project involved building a 23-kilometre road that would cost 17 million riyals and connect Al-Eidaniyah and Al-Saqra to the main Afif/Dhalam road. The project also included the completion of the 3 km long, 7 million riyal road between Umm Rujum and Hafr Al-Atash. This inauguration will improve mobility in the region and benefit its tourists, according to Eng. Saleh Al-Jasser, Minister of Transport and Logistics.
Further, it is part of the Saudi Crown Prince’s National Transport and Logistics Strategy, which aims to solidify the nation’s standing as a major global logistics hub. It is being carried out in compliance with the Saudi Road Code and the strictest quality and safety regulations.
The first projects will help the Riyadh region’s road system. To achieve the objectives of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, the Minister underlined that they are an extension of the Transport and Logistics System’s efforts to improve the road network and other forms of transport. They are among the most significant national enablers.

Vision 2030’s Emphasis on Roads & Other Infrastructure
Saudi Arabia’s infrastructure has developed quickly and expanded, and the Kingdom has placed a high priority on it through its Vision. The Kingdom will spend about $1.1 trillion on infrastructure by 2038, according to a study by the top management consulting firm Strategic & Middle East.
Meanwhile, the Vision seeks to improve the efficiency of current road networks to develop cities through the “Quality of Life” programme. This entails constructing the urban road network, upgrading its lines and mechanisms, and equipping it with the newest technology. By designing road safety programmes, it also seeks to provide services and advance the transportation management system.
Among the most essential goals in the roads sector are enhancing the quality of road services for citizens, upholding high standards for the Kingdom’s main roads, providing sufficient service capacity to meet future demand, and increasing traffic safety by creating road networks that satisfy these standards. Enhancing the road user experience is another goal, as user needs change.
In conclusion, the commencement of six road projects in Riyadh complements the Kingdom’s development efforts to improve the quality of life in Saudi cities and increase the efficiency of the country’s roads and infrastructure. This will result in advancement and economic growth, achieving the main goals of Vision 2030.
