Dammam has transformed from an oil and gas hub to a significant travel destination, fueled by the tourism development at Dammam Corniche.

The city of Dammam has seen an incredible metamorphosis from a centre for oil and gas to a top travel destination. This change is mostly attributable to the Dammam Corniche’s tourism boom, which features multiple shoreline sections with a range of recreational and service amenities.

The Dammam Corniche, which runs the length of the city’s coastline, has several waterfront sections with sports and recreational facilities as well as extensive amenities for locals and tourists.

The growth of Saudi Arabia’s tourism attractions has made it a popular travel destination throughout the world. Saudi citizens and locals have benefited from this advancement because public areas have received a great deal of attention.

Scenic Triangle: The Confluence of Paths

Between 9th and 18th Streets, one of the most recognised of these locations has two primary paths: the main path and a subsidiary trail at its terminus. These two routes create a triangle with a sizeable lake and about five kilometres set aside for sports, including cycling, walking, and running.

Moreover, the Corniche has many amenities, such as a 300-boat marina, 1,000-car parking, and 155,000 square metres of greenery and trees. Strong breakwaters further protect the area from the sea along the sandy swimming beach. Two breakwaters are part of the project: a 1,300-metre breakwater in the south and a 1,100-metre breakwater in the north with a service road.

Another waterfront area is 4.5 km long, 500,000 square metres in size, and has an 8-kilometre promenade. This waterfront is notable for its two 23-metre-tall Gulf-inspired towers that serve as prominent landmarks and its main circular plaza, which is 6 metres high and spans 17,000 square metres and is intended for festivals and festivities. In addition, there are water fountains at the main entrance, 155,000 square metres of parking for 3,000 cars, and 250,000 square metres of green space.

Six different courts for football, basketball, volleyball, and handball, as well as kid-friendly play spaces throughout its length and public amenities like restrooms and pedestrian walkways, have been set aside for sports and recreation aficionados.

In the Al Saif region, a brand-new waterfront promenade measuring over 2,000 metres in length and 100 metres in depth opened its doors in 2021 with careful attention to both user comfort and aesthetics. Children’s play areas, sports facilities, a jogging track, pedestrian walkways, creative sculptures, and parking for people with disabilities, green areas, and shade trees are all included.

Coral Island

One of the most well-known tourist destinations in the area, Coral Island, sits at the southernmost point of the Dammam Corniche. Its 300-metre diametre and circular shape set it apart. The island debuted in 1991 and has 53,000 square metres of green space.

Numerous visitor amenities are available on the island, such as parking for about 350 cars, a 4-kilometre walking promenade, picnic spaces, and semicircular seating. A spiral tower that rises 30 metres above sea level is an attractive landmark that draws tourists in.

Corniche Lagoon

One unique feature of the city’s seafront is the Dammam Corniche Lagoon. It has a lengthy waterway that immediately connects to the Arabian Gulf, and Coastal erosion formed it. A 30-metre bridge spans the lagoon, allowing recreational boats to travel freely.

Besides trees, encircled by wide green spaces covering 450,000 square meters, the lagoon boasts beautiful sandy beaches and modern irrigation systems. In addition to services and amenities for visitors from the private sector, such as dining options, more than 2,000 parking spaces have been made accessible.

King Abdullah Cultural Centre

The King Abdullah Cultural Centre, which occupies more than 850,000 square metres and can accommodate more than 12,000 people, sits on the Dammam Corniche. With two man-made islands, hotels, business buildings, investment centres, a movie theatre, and a marina, it is an all-inclusive tourist, cultural, and entertainment destination.

Multipurpose halls, gardens and green areas, canals and waterways, kid-friendly play places, eateries, cafés, and stores are just a few of the centre’s many amenities. Along with all required support services, it also features outdoor theatres, sports clubs, marine activities, retail stores, a museum, a library, an aquarium, a bicycle path, fountains, public squares, and spaces for festivals, events, exhibitions, and conferences.

In 2022, the Eastern Province Municipality offered the centre for investment under a fifty-year contract, intending to increase economic, tourism, entertainment, cultural, and sporting activity in Dammam, creating a comprehensive urban destination on the Dammam Corniche, and improving visitor services.

Dammam Corniche Development Project

The Eastern Province Municipality launched a project in 2022 to develop a section of the Dammam Corniche, which is more than 6,000 square metres in size, with the goal of transforming it into a comprehensive entertainment destination. The project’s main objectives are to increase green space, reduce traffic noise, connect buildings with pedestrian pathways, and create an interactive water-based entertainment plaza.

The project’s design adhered to the strictest engineering guidelines for stormwater drainage, irrigation, lighting, and road networks. It involves building several amenities and services, including a central mosque, a playground for kids, a bike route and workout equipment. Furthermore, the plazas include areas set aside for artwork, providing visitors with eye-catching sweeping views.

In summary, a trip to the Dammam Corniche, which blends land and sea and has many gardens and green areas, is an all-encompassing experience. The Corniche contains everything visitors need to enhance their trip, so they don’t need to travel elsewhere to experience anything new.
