The Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), the sole owner of AlUla Development Company, has revealed new information regarding its ambitious hotel project, Numaj—A Fabric of the Earth. Marriott International runs the hotel, which is the first Autograph Collection property in AlUla.
The CEO, Fabian Toscano, disclosed these developments while attending Dubai’s Arabian Travel Market 2025. The hotel’s sustainable practices and creative design were on display, intending to earn the esteemed LEED Gold certification.
The Earth’s Fabric: A Design Inspired by Stars & Heritage
Named after AlUla’s astronomical and natural heritage, the Numaj Hotel almost abstractly reflects the Ursa Major constellation’s “Nu Orsi Majoris,” or “AlUla Borealis,” star system.
These stars have long served as a source of guidance for ancient travellers. The Arabic expression “first leap,” which connotes a daring start and a voyage of discovery that corresponds with the exclusive experience the hotel offers its visitors, is another source of the name’s meaning.
The Italian company Gioforma, which designed the Maraya Ballroom, also designed the hotel. Drawing inspiration from the idea of “the fabric of the earth,” the hotel’s design integrates natural materials, traditional and modern patterns, and the colours of AlUla.
The goal of the design is to balance indoor and outdoor areas so that visitors can fully experience the area’s distinctive natural beauty. Moreover, the meticulous use of light, shadow, and materials, as well as traditional mashrabiyas and stone carvings inspired by local art, all contribute to the rich visual experience that honours the region’s cultural identity. Besides, the hotel, which includes 250 rooms and suites, will likely open in 2027.

Sustainability Commitment & Pursuit of LEED Gold Certification
Sustainable design and operation are the cornerstones of the Numaj Hotel, which aims to earn LEED Gold certification for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.
The implementation of creative solutions that guarantee effective water management by reusing grey water and treated water for irrigation, along with the use of locally sourced building and decorating materials to lessen the carbon footprint and boost the local economy. These are examples of this strategy in action. Additionally, the hotel prioritises energy efficiency by utilising unique UV-resistant glass, which lowers heat gain within the structures and lessens the need for air conditioning.
Concurrently, the hotel incorporates a well-considered landscaping and green space design that enhances harmony with AlUla’s distinctive environment while taking water efficiency into account. Furthermore, a lighting plan was created in compliance with AlUla’s regulations to maintain the night sky’s purity, which helps to safeguard the “dark sky” and improves the nighttime landscape that is ideal for wildlife and astronomical observation.
